How can I adopt a puppy/dog?
To adopt an animal, you need to fill out our detailed adoption questionnaire. This helps us match you with a suitable animal based on your lifestyle and preferences, ensuring a perfect fit for both you and the puppy.
What is the adoption process like?
Our adoption process involves an in-depth questionnaire to understand your lifestyle and preferences. After reviewing your application, we conduct a home visit to ensure a safe environment for the puppy. Once approved, you can meet potential puppies and choose the one that fits your family best. We also provide post-adoption support to help you and your new puppy adjust.
How much does it cost and why do you ask for an adoption donation?
We ask for a donation as part of the adoption process. The amount varies depending on age and other factors and it is a contribution that helps Puppy HQ continue rescuing and caring for other dogs in need.
While an animal is in our care, Puppy HQ covers all costs through donations. This includes veterinary treatment, vaccinations, microchipping, neutering (where appropriate), food, parasite treatments, and essential equipment such as leads, bedding, crates, secure harnesses and tracker subscriptions.
Many dogs require additional medical care or behavioural support. For example, neutering a large female dog can cost up to €140, and raising a puppy to 15 weeks (including food, vaccinations and microchipping) can exceed €190. Adoption donations rarely cover the full cost, but they are essential in allowing us to continue our work.
We ask for the donation to be paid prior to adoption. In some cases, a payment plan may be agreed, and in exceptional circumstances we reserve the right to waive the donation.
Every contribution helps us give more dogs a safe and secure future.
How long does the process take?
Timelines vary, depending on the situation, your location and age of the animal you are adopting.
Can I meet the animal in advance of starting the adoption process?
Yes, if you are interested in a particular dog it is possible to arrange a meeting in person or by video call.

What / who is Puppy HQ?
Puppy HQ is dedicated to rescuing, caring for, and rehoming abandoned puppies and pregnant dogs, ensuring they receive the best start in life through essential care and responsible adoption processes. Puppy HQ is an registered non profit association, made up of volunteers, led by Rachel Slade.
How can I support Puppy HQ?
We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive, and there are many different ways you can get involved with Puppy HQ — whether you live locally or further afield.
One of the simplest and most powerful ways to help is by sharing our posts, appeals and adoption profiles on Facebook and other social media platforms. A single share can help a dog find a home or bring vital support to an urgent case.
You can also support us financially by donating to our emergency appeals, contributing to ongoing fundraising campaigns, or becoming a regular supporter via Teaming. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us continue rescuing and caring for vulnerable dogs.
If you live in Andalucia, you may be able to foster one of our dogs, providing a safe and loving temporary home until they are adopted. Even if you are not local, you can still adopt one of our dogs and give them the permanent home they deserve. Adoption not only changes that dog’s life — it also frees up space and resources so we can help others in need. All associated expenses are covered by PuppyHQ.
We also regularly need help with transport and logistics — taking dogs to vet appointments, moving them to foster homes, or helping them reach their adoptive families. We sometimes need help collecting donations for our charity shops. If you are a driver and can spare some time, we can reimburse fuel costs.
While some volunteering roles, for example voluntering in one of our shops, are best suited to those based locally to Baza or Huéscar, there are still plenty of ways to help from anywhere. Sharing our posts, donating raffle prizes or unwanted items, joining as a regular small donor, or supporting our online campaigns all make a meaningful difference.
However you choose to get involved, you are helping us to help animals in need.
How can I donate?
You can donate:
- Online via our website
- Through regular monthly giving
- By sponsoring a dog
- At one of our fundraising events
- At one of our charity shops
Every contribution, no matter the size, directly supports dogs in our care.

How do I report animal cruelty?
If you witness or suspect animal cruelty, please contact SEPRONA (Guardia Civil Animal Welfare Unit) on Tel: 952 55 83 21, or report the incident via the “Alert Cops” app.
Unfortunately, Puppy HQ is unable to intervene directly without the involvement of the local police authorities. Animal welfare concerns must first be reported through the appropriate legal channels to ensure proper investigation and action.
What do i do if I find a stray dog?
Please take the dog to a local vet as soon as possible for a health check and microchip scan. Many stray dogs are simply lost, and a microchip can quickly identify the owner.
If the dog is not microchipped, please email us with basic details including the dog’s size, breed (if known), location found, condition, and a clear photograph if possible.
If we are able to assist, we may help by arranging a foster placement, securing a safe space, or sharing the dog’s details on our social media pages. If we cannot offer direct support, we will use our network of contacts to try to find a place of safety.
While we will always endeavour to help wherever possible, we cannot guarantee assistance in every case.
What do I do if I find abandoned newborn puppies?
If you find newborn puppies that appear abandoned, it’s important to act quickly, as they are extremely vulnerable.
- Keep them warm: Newborn puppies cannot regulate their body temperature. Use a clean towel, blanket, or hot water bottle (wrapped to avoid burns) to provide gentle warmth.
- Do not feed cow’s milk: Only specialised puppy milk replacer should be used. Cow’s milk can cause serious digestive issues. In an absolute emergency goats milk can be used.
- Check for the mother: Observe from a distance for a short period to see if the mother returns. Sometimes mothers leave puppies temporarily to find food.
- Seek veterinary care immediately: Puppies under a few weeks old can deteriorate very quickly. A vet can assess their health, provide warmth, and advise on feeding.
- Contact Puppy HQ with details including the number of puppies, location, condition, and any photos. We will advise and, where possible, provide guidance or assistance.
Newborn puppies require round-the-clock care, so please act quickly and safely. Even if we cannot take them directly, we will do our best to guide you to a suitable solution.
